Philips Lighting Global CEO Eric Rondolat meets PM

Philips Lighting Global CEO Eric Rondolat today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the company's interest to participate in the government's key initiatives of Make-in-India, smart cities and solar lighting.

"The agenda was to discuss Philips Lighting's commitment to India on three strategic pillars - Make-in-India, Smart Cities and Solar Lighting," Philips said in a statement.

They also discussed on solar lighting and 'Prakash Path Yojana', in which Philips Lighting will provide 15 million LED bulbs, it added.

Rondolat was accompanied by Murali Sivaraman, President, Growth Markets Philips Lighting and Harsh Chitale, CEO, Philips Lighting, South Asia in the meeting.
 

The Modi government has been encouraging global companies to manufacture in India as a part of its 'Make in India' initiative.

The Prime Minister had also launched the ambitious 100 Smart Cities project. The Centre today announced names of the 98 cities selected for the ambitious Rs 48,000 crore Smart Cities project, pending a nomination each from Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The government is planning to harness solar power to enable every home to run at least one light bulb by 2019.
