The annual festival of "Phool Walon Ki Sair", which symbolises communal harmony, was today inaugurated by Delhi Chief minister Sheila Dikshit here.

A traditional Pankha was presented to the chief minister at a simple function at the Delhi Secretariat by the office bearers of Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan.

Dikshit stated that Phool Walon Ki Sair is a symbol of composite culture of Delhi. "Phool Walon Ki Sair has been enriching our unity and secularism," she said.

The festival, which is now an annual feature, was revived at the instance of the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru by Yogeshwar Dayal in 1961.

A number of states would be sending their attractive Pankhas in festival of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood beginning from October 22. It will continue till October 26.
