Veteran photographer S Paul died at a private hospital here after suffering from illness for the last few months, leaving a void behind in the field that he excelled in with panache.

Born on August 19, 1930, in Pakistan, Paul died last night, a few days shy of turning 87 on World Photography Day. He was the elder brother of renowned photographer Raghu Rai.

A pall of gloom descended over his family, friends and admirers, many of whom considered him as their "guru".

A host of well-known photographers attended the funeral service of the late photographer and paid respect to the departed soul.

"He touched many a lives, either in person or through his inspirational life. His contribution to the field is immense and he will be sorely missed by the photographers fraternity," said a photographer, who attended the cremation.
