A Japanese aviation photographer has set a new Guinness World record by having travelled across the world in 156 different airline carriers.

Charlie Furusho alias Ryuji Furusho, 41, a resident of Narita city in the Chiba administrative divison of Japan, has so far travelled to some 100 countries to take photographs for aviation magazines.

Furusho had submitted this January boarding passes of all 182 airline journeys which began back in January 1996 to Guinness as evidence, reported Kyodo news agency.

The figure of 156 that entered the records was reached by counting group airlines as one and excluding chartered flights and helicopters, based on the criteria used by Guinness.

Upon finding that current such record stands at 108 airlines, 41-year-old Furusho realised he could prove he has flown on more carriers.

Speaking at an event at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Aichi Prefecture, central Japan, in May to mark his achievement, Furusho said he is keen to build on his record.

"It is interesting to observe the cultural differences between countries by the food served on board and the uniforms of the crew," he said.
