Physically challenged man gets life term in murder case

A court here today sentenced a 45-year-old physically challenged man to life imprisonment for murdering a blind man last year.

Second Additional District Judge Ramakrishnan sentenced Manikandan, an inmate of a hostel for the physically challenged here, to life imprisonment for murdering his room mate Kumaresan.

The judge also sentenced him to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for causing injuries to four partially blind persons who tried to prevent the attack.

The sentences would run concurrently, the judge said.

The prosecution case was that a verbal argument broke out between the two at the hostel over an issue on July 27, 2015. Manikandan in a fit of anger beat Kumaresan with a wooden log.
 

Kumaresan sustained bleeding injuries and died on the way to hospital.

Manikandan was arrested later and charged with murder.
