Sports Ministry today decided to train physiotherapists at all the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centres in Yogic techniques with an aim to help athletes in speedy recovery after injuries.
"Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has decided to train physiotherapists of SAI Centres in Yogic techniques. The purpose is to achieve integration of physiotherapy and yogic science for helping athletes in speedy recovery," the ministry said in a release.
"SAI has been asked to instruct all its Centres to train their Physiotherapists in Yoga," it added.

This was seven months after the Ministry gave recognition to Yoga as a sports discipline and place it in the 'Priority' category in September last year.
That decision had made Yoga eligible for government grant and paved the way for it to be included as a competitive sport at the national level.
