Press Trust of India New Delhi
The Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP) today demanded establishment of a national council to regulate and address various issues related to the profession.

Seeking establishment of a statutory council on the lines of the Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India and Nursing Council of India, over 1,500 physiotherapists, dressed in their professional attire, cleaned several streets of Delhi to press for their demand.

IAP President Umasankar Mohanty said, "We have submitted several memorandums to the authorities concerned and the elected representatives but there has been no progress on our legitimate demands. Whether it's NDA-led government or UPA-led government, no action or initiative has been taken by either of them towards (reducing) our plight."

"The formation of a Central Physiotherapy Council will establish proper standard of physiotherapy profession, practice and education. Regularise the system of registration, recognition, standard, quality of education in physiotherapy and will be able to check the unprofessional practice/quackery in physiotherapy by untrained professional," IAP said in a statement.
