Aiming to boost the government's information dissemination mechanism in rural areas, PIB will hold its first regional media conference in Jobner area of Jaipur district on March 12.

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), which comes under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, plans to hold several such workshops in the future.

"We had earlier held a conference in Delhi and in continuity with that plan to have more such workshops in different parts of the country. The aim is to ensure better connectivity and understand how we can facilitate journalists better in doing their job," DG PIB Frank Noronha said.

Regional reporters and stringers of newspapers and news channels will participate in the one-day Jaipur conference which aims at improving dissemination of information to rural areas on government policies and programmes, an official statement released here said.

Through the conference, the PIB also aims to build up capacities of journalists in rural areas on reporting on developmental issues through this exercise.

Participants will be given orientation on the role of social media in information dissemination while officials will also elicit feedback from the journalists working in rural areas on their information needs.

The discussions during the conference will centre on evolving a mechanism wherein the reporters of rural areas will be better equipped to write or report on various schemes and crisis situations, the statement said.
