Prolific England batsman Kevin Pietersen is the most missed overseas cricketer in the Indian Premier League (IPL), according to a poll conducted by sportswear giant Nike.

Of the total 3096 votes, Pietersen has garnered a staggering figure of 2208 for a percentage of 71.32, which is miles ahead of the next best player, maverick Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who has got 369 votes with 11.92 percentage.

The middle-order batsman was to play for the Delhi Daredevils franchise in IPL-6 but a knee injury ruled him out even before the start of the cash-rich T20 extravaganza.

Pietersen had a fruitful season with the Daredevils last season and was expected to play a vital role this time around too.

His recovery is taking longer than expected.

Pakistan's off-spinner Saeed Ajmal is third on the list with 198 votes for a percentage of 6.40.

He is followed by South Africa's Hashim Amla and burly New Zealander Jesse Ryder who had recently suffered multiple injuries after being assaulted out a bar in Christchurch.
