PIL filed in HC seeking guidelines to appoint law officers

A PIL was today filed in the Madras High Court bench here seeking a direction to Tamil Nadu government to frame rules for appointment of law officers in lower courts in the state.

The PIL by one K Magudeeswaran came up before a division bench of Justices A Selvam and N Authinathan, which issued notices to the state government.

The petitioner submitted that he was apprehensive that law officers could be appointed on political considerations, and hence it was necessary to frame rules for appointments.

The selection process should be transparent so that eligible lawyers could be appointed as additional public prosecutor and public prosecutors, he added.
 

The Additional Advocate General representing the Tamil Nadu government agreed to file the counter by July six.
