A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court against the removal of contact information including, phone numbers, of Tamil Nadu Ministers from the state government's official website.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan, son of former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker PTR Palanivel Rajan, is likely to come up for hearing on Monday.

In his petition, Thiagarajan stated that the official website of Tamil Nadu government, www.Tn.Gov.In, containing the contact information including email addresses of the Ministers, was updated on July 21.

However, the information was removed from the site the next day for reasons best known to the authorities concerned, he alleged.

Stating that the information provided online was an official one and therefore it does not fall under the category of information exempted from disclosure as per law, the petitioner said its removal is in contravention of the Right to Information Act 2005 and as such "illegal."

People of his constituency had brought the issue to his knowledge claiming that they were unable to communicate with the ministers, he added.
