A PIL today sought a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the allegations of improper conduct made against three former Chief Justices of India by one of its former judges Markandey Katju before confirmation of a Madras High Court despite corruption charges against him.
The PIL, filed by advocate N Rajaraman, seeks probe into Katju's allegations by a sitting judge of Supreme Court duly assisted by the Law Ministry and Home Ministry.
Katju had alleged that the three former CJIs--Justices R C Lahoti, Y K Sabharwal and K G Balakrishnan--made "improper compromises" and "succumbed to political pressure" in allowing the judge to continue despite an "adverse" Intelligence Bureau (IB) report on allegations of corruption against him.
