Suggesting that the petitioner can approach the court if Tamil Nadu Government did not form Lokayukta even after amendments proposed by the Centre were introduced, Madras High Court today disposed a PIL seeking a directive to the state to set up the anti-graft body.
Chief Justice S K Kaul and Justice S Manikumar, disposing a petition filed by one K K Ramesh, said the state government had submitted it was awaiting the amendments and said if government does not implement the act even after the amendments are made, the petitioner could approach court.
The petitioner alleged that state government officials were not acting on implementing the act in order to protect corrupt politicians and top level officials. They were giving breathing time to them to set right the malpractices, he said.

He contended that the government had not taken a single step to comply with the act, though as per the law the action should be taken within 12 months.
The petitioner submitted that many projects which had been declared remained on paper and people remained poor due to corruption. This could be curbed only by forming the Lokayukta, he said.
