PIl seeking easy availability of generic medicines to the poor

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court today sought a reply from the central and state governments on a public interest litigation (PIL) petition for making available generic medicines to common people easily.

It directed counsel for both the governments to seek instructions and file short counter affidavits (reply )within three weeks and fixed October 27 as the next date of hearing on the matter.

A division bench of chief justice D Y Chandrachud and justice S N Shukla passed the order on the PIL filed by a local lawyer seeking directions to advertise the generic medicine in full swing and to make available these medicines to common people easily.
 

The petitioner's counsel M K Gupta alleged that generic medicines are not being made available to common and poor peoples easily in UP.

Central and state governments were represented through their counsel who sought time to seek instructions in this matter for filing their responses.

According to the petitioner's counsel, the court, while allowing three weeks for the same, fixed October 27 as the next date of hearing the PIL.
