Madras High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking a direction to Tamil Nadu government to implement and enforce effectively the ban on sale of lotteries.

The First Bench Comprising Acting Chief Justice Sathish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sunderesh while dismissing the petition filed by A M Kamaraj, a DMDK worker, said "the petition is misconceived and deserves to be dismissed".

Kamaraj contended that though the sale of lottery tickets were banned in the state in 2003, some anti-social elements were selling the tickets in some places.

The court said the petitioner has not pointed out any details of particular incident of sale of lottery tickets and also not informed the details about his complaint to concerned police station authorities.

When a proper remedy is available under the provisions of law, he filed the PIL seeking publicity, the judges said.
