A division bench of the Madras High Court today dismisseda PIL seeking to direct the Centre to permit operation of more international flights from Madurai.
The court dismissed the plea after the official of the Civil Aviation Ministry Sandesh Saxena submitted that the operation of international flights from air ports was a commercial decision which has to be considered by the airlines on the basis of traffic potential, safety, infrastructure and capacity of the airlines to operate flights.
Besides such operations were decided by bilateral air services agreement(ASA) between india and foreign air line concerned, he submitted.

Besides due to special considerations designated air lines of Sri Lanka had been permitted to operate from madurai to colombo under ASA.
Under ASA many issues have tobe considered.
The court dismissed the PIL on the ground that it involved foreign policy and various norms and policies required for operation of international flights.
