PIL seeks enactment of RTS Act in TN

Madras High Court today directed authorities to take steps in accordance with law on a plea seeking enactment of Right To Service Act in Tamil Nadu Government as had been done in various other states.

"The authorities are directed to do the needful in accordance with law and on merits as expeditiously as possible," first bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sathish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh said passing orders on a PIL.

Petitioner Varaaki sought a direction to the state government to enact the RTS Act to ensure a time frame for delivery of essential services to public.
 

When the matter came up for hearing, Special Government Pleader I S Inbadurai that the representation submitted by the petitioner will be considered as expeditiously as possible.

Quoting the example of Madhya Pradesh which was the first in implementing the RTS Act in August 2010, the PIL said the act will give the right to public to know everything that can be availed through the Government.
