A PIL has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the government to evolve a comprehensive land utilisation and lay-out approval policy to prevent conversion of agricultural lands for commercial use.
When the petition filed by advocate V B R Menon, came up for hearing, the court issued notice to concerned Government Pleaders and directed for listing it with a connected matter, is scheduled to come up on October 21.
The advocate has already filed another PIL alleging that there was an increase of indiscriminate conversion of the agricultural lands for other purposes.
This might pose serious threats to the overall food grain production and consequent problems within the state in the long run.
