Pilgrim killed in car mishap near Rameswaram

One person was killed while four others injured when the car they were travelling in, rammed into a roadside tree on Madurai-Rameswaram highway near here today, police said.

The incident occurred last night when the group of pilgrims from Haryana were enroute to Chennai after visiting Rameswaram in their car, they said.

When the vehicle approached Uchapuli, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into a tree.

While Mohit (27) died on the spot, others sustained injuries and were admitted to Ramanthapuram Government hospital, they added.

A case has been registered, police said.
