Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s remark that Rahul Gandhi may take over as the party president after Diwali “accurately” echoes the sentiments of a vast number of party functionaries and their hope will fructify after organisation polls, a party spokesperson said on Monday.

The spokesperson, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, also attacked the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh after the Amethi district administration had asked Gandhi to reschedule his visit to his Lok Sabha constituency on law and order grounds.

Speaking to reporters here, Singhvi questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi or UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would decide who can visit their constituencies and when.

“What Mr Pilot has done is accurately echoed the sentiments of the vast number of Congress workers,” Singhvi said, but added he expressed views as a party functionary and not as a spokesperson.
