A team of NIA officials today met CID officers and discussed the progress of the inquiry into the blast which claimed 12 lives in West Midnapore district earlier this month.

"We had a discussion with NIA officials who came to the CID office regarding the blast. We dicussed various matters with them including the progress of investigation," a senior CID official said.

Asked whether NIA would take over the investigation into the incident, the official said "I cannot comment on this matter. As of now, we are investigating the case".

Twelve persons were killed and four others injured in an explosion at an illegal firecracker factory at Pingla in West Midnapore district of West Bengal on May 7. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had ordered a CID investigation into the incident.

Opposition Left Front and BJP have alleged that a bigger terror network was operating there and the state government was trying to hush up the matter.
