The first phase of providing piped cooking gas to 15,000 households in Goa would be completed by 2022, state Power and Renewable Energy Minister Nilesh Cabral said on Friday.
He said the project will get impetus due to the Union government drafting the City Gas Distribution Network (CGDN) policy.
Cabral had, on Wednesday, attended a consultation workshop on the policy in New Delhi.
"The first phase of the project in Goa covering over 15,000 homes in urban areas, comprising 9,588 households in North Goa and 6,098 houses in South Goa, will be completed by 2022," Cabral said.
The work for a pipeline in North Goa has been allotted to Goa Natural Gas Private Limited, a joint venture of Gas Authority of India Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, while the pipeline in South Goa is being laid by a joint venture firm of Indian Oil Corporation and the Adani group.
Cabral said a committee will be formed under the state chief secretary to oversee the pipeline construction work.
