Piran Kaliyar, one of the most revered Muslim shrines in Uttarakhand, and other places of historic and religious significance around it will be developed as a tourist circuit, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said.

Rawat, who held a meeting here yesterday to review development works in Piran Kaliyar and Roorkee Assembly constituencies, asked officials concerned to work out a detail plan to develop the dargah of 13th century Sufi saint of Chishti Order Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kalyari and adjoining areas of historic and religious interest as a tourist circuit, according to an official release.

Rawat directed Haridwar District Magistrate and Secretary Tourism to prepare a plan in this regard as soon as possible and submit it to the state government.

Reminding them that a project worth Rs 7 crore has been cleared for the purpose, he said work on it should start soon.

Situated at Kaliyar village on the banks of Ganga Canal about 7 km from Roorkee in Haridwar district, the shrine is revered by Muslims and Hindus alike and draws a large number of devotees from across the country and abroad every year.
