Plan drawn to clear enroachers in Puducherry

The Police department has drawn up a plan to ensure that the pavements and footpaths in important shopping centres here are rid of encroachments and it would be implemented in consultation with the stakeholders.

Stating this at an interaction with the traders and businessmen of Puducherry here today, Inspector General of Police Praveer Ranjan said the administration intended to make Puducherry "nice, beautiful and environmentally congenial".

He said that it was not the intention of the police or the traffic wing of the department to deprive the vendors and hawkers of their livelihood.

"We have a plan which would be implemented after enlisting the views of the stakeholders. Nothing would be done without consulting the businessmen and traders', he assured seeking the cooperation of the business community.
 

Commissioner of Puducherry Municipality R Chandrasekar and his counterpart in Uzhavarkarai municipality M S Ramesh, senior police officials of traffic and transport wings also spoke.

Representatives of the traders and trade union leaders presented their suggestions to prepare a blueprint on the management of the traffic and also for achieving an encroachment free shopping centres'.
