Uttarakhand government is working on a plan to develop model townships in all the 13 districts of the state and if the experiment is successful the scheme will be expanded, Chief Minister Harish Rawat said today.

The plan is being introduced to take urban facilities to the maximum number of people and at least one or at the most four model townships will be developed in each district, he said at a joint press conference along with PCC chief Yashpal Arya.

An employment policy will be introduced by the state government on the directive of the party high command after the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls to encourage first generation of entrepreneurs, he said.

Referring to party Vice President Rahul Gandhi's vision in this regard, he said he has already constituted a three-member Group of Ministers to frame an employment policy.

Highlighting achievements of his government, Rawat said a record number of development projects in education, power and minority welfare sectors had been sanctioned during the less than two months that he had been in power.

"Not only that, work on 95 per cent of the 1,803 projects announced in February has been started," he said.

He also said 1,061 development related government orders have been issued since he took over on February 1, this year which is a record of sorts.

Rs 156 crore has also been sanctioned through the 81 Project Implementation Units (PIUs) set up in flood hit districts for reconstruction projects, he said.
