Plan to have presence from desktop to smartphone: ASUS

After manufacturing motherboards for personal computers, ASUS has chalked out plans for having presence in all segments, from a cabinet tower of a desktop computer to a smartphone, according to a top official.

Besides the company has also set a target of reaching the top five slot in notebook, tablets and smartphone categories in the domestic market by 2015, ASUS India, Country Manager (System Business Group) and Regional Head-South Asia, Peter Chang said.

"Our plan is to be present comprehensively.. Right from the cabinet tower (Central Processing Unit of a personal computer) of a desktop to a smartphone. We have set a goal to achieve No 5 (rank) in tablet, smartphone and PC by 2015", he told reporters after unveiling three new smartphones under the brand ZenFone.
 

The Taiwan-based company has partnered with chip manufacturer Intel to offer Intel Atom dual-core processors in the smartphones which are priced at Rs 5,999, Rs 9,999 and Rs 16,999 respectively.

Chang pointed out that the launch of the smartphones are part of the plans to achieve the target of reaching No 5 slot in the Indian market by 2015 and added that the company was working on the tablet 'Fonepad' which would be priced below Rs 10,000.
