A small plane crash in a remote area of northwestern Mexico has claimed the lives of six men. Authorities from the state of Chihuahua said today the wreckage of the Cessna aircraft was found a day earlier in Urique, a township in the neighboring state of Sinaloa.

The state prosecutor's office said federal authorities would investigate the cause of the crash. The bodies of the pilot and five apparent passengers were taken to a morgue for autopsies.

The area is considered one of the main areas of drug cultivation and drug-trafficking in Mexico.
