Development plans for Darjeeling, which included construction of satellite townships in the three subdivisions, was today outlined by Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Chief Executive Bimal Gurung.

"We have to utilise Rs 200 crore within March. For this we have chalked out various development projects for the hills," Gurung said on the sidelines of a meeting with party workers and supporters here.

"Besides the population, there is manifold increase in construction in the three towns. The load is immense and to ease this burden, we have plans to construct satellite towns," he said.

In Darjeeling sub-division, a new township was expected to come up between Happy Valley and Rangit Tea garden, while a new satellite town in Kurseong would be built at Monteviot and the process of identifying land for a township in Kalimpong was in progress, Gurung said.

He also said that he would lay the foundation stone for a passenger ropeway from Giddeypahar to Rohini in Kurseong sub-division on January 22.
