The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked varsities across the country to celebrate the third anniversary of the "Swachh Bharat" campaign and plant 70 saplings to mark 70th year of the country's Independence.
The varsities and higher educational institutions have also been asked to send photographs to ensure compliance with the directive.
"The period from September 15 to October 2 has been designated as 'Swachhta Hi Seva' to celebrate the third anniversary of 'Swachh Bharat'. Cleaning of campus buildings, corridors and toilets may be ensured through effective garbage collection and solid waste management system," the UGC said in a communication to universities.
