The Telangana government would set up a plastics park near here to boost the plastics industry in the state, Industries Minister K T Rama Rao saidhere today.
The park would come up at Tummaluru in Ranga Reddy district in about 110 acres, he said after inaugurating a plastics exhibition 'IPLEX 2018', organised by the Telangana and Andhra Plastics Manufacturers Association (TAAPMA).
Thepark can provide direct employment to 5,000 people.
The minister was responding to a request by Venugopal Jasthi, Convenor, IPLEX 2018 and president of TAAPMA, to set up the plastics park (which would house plastic units).
Talking about use of plastics, vis-a-vis environmental concerns, Rao said re-usable and recyclable plastic needs to be promoted.
The state government has chosen 14 priority sectors for industrial promotion and plastics and polymers is one of them, he said.

Senior officials from CIPET (Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology), Telangana government, Hiten Bheda, president of All India Plastics Manufacturers Association and others were present on the occasion.
Anil Reddy Vennum, Chairman, Advisory Committee of IPLEX 2018, said banning plastics was not the solution to the concerns expressed over environment, vis--vis plastic.
"Explore the other possibilities. Change littering habits of people. Segregation and recycling has to be encouraged," he said.
