Platinum jubilee celebrations of Mahadevi Birla Sishu Vihar

The platinum jubliee celebration of Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar in the city was inaugurated today.

The school was founded by industrialist and philanthropist Basant Kumar Birla and his wife late Sarala Birla in 1946. Their then three-year old son Aditya Vikram Birla was its first student.

The school, which is ISO 9001:2008 and 14001:2004 standards compliant, now has about 2300 students.

At the inauguration the Consul General of France in Kolkata, Damien Syed expressed joy at being a part of the celebrations.

Students, alumni, teachers and staff will take part in 'Walk' tomorrow to highlight issues like empowerment of women and environment. Two street plays will also be staged.
 

On the last day of the celebrations on November 4 will feature the staging of a programme 'Jubilant Memoirs' by students and faculty and a musical programme by Usha Uthup at a city auditorium.

Allan Gemmell, OBE Director India, British Council, and Mikhail Gusev, Deputy Consul, Russian Consulate General in Kolkata, will be present, a press release said today.

A carnival will also be held on the occasion in which 200 students from NGO-run schools and 15 elderly residents of old age homes will join apart from students of the school, it added.
