A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly molested by an attendant of a play school in outer Delhi's Rohini, following which the accused has been arrested, police said today.

Although medical examination of the girl revealed that she had some minor urinary tract infection and there were no signs of sexual assault, the police, have booked the accused, identified as Amit Tiwari (35), under various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the IPC as the victim has alleged that she was touched inappropriately by him.

The incident came to light yesterday afternoon when the victim's mother went to the play school to pick her up. The girl pointed toward Tiwari and alleged that he assaulted her regularly.

"As the girl had been complaining about some irritation in her private parts since the last several days, her mother rushed to the play school authorities and accused Tiwari of sexually assaulting her daughter," said a senior police officer.

As the news spread, a large crowd gathered outside the play school and people started thrashing Tiwari. A police team rushed to the spot after receiving a call from the school authorities and took him into custody to save him from the angry mob, he said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Vikramjit Singh, the case is being thoroughly investigated by them as the allegations are serious. Police will also examine the CCTV footage of the school.

Meanwhile, around 150 people including parents of other children staged a protest outside the play school today, demanding a thorough probe and immediate action against the school authorities.
