Tirupur Exporters' Association today requested Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to include additional specialty fabrics under customs duty free import.

Thanking Jaitley for presenting a 'pragmatic budget' , giving more emphasis and focus to the development of rural and agriculture, TEA president, A Shaktivel, in a letter to him, hailed the announcement of the exemption from payment of basic customs duty on import of specified fabrics (for manufacture of textile garments for export of value equivalent to one per cent of FOB value of exports in the preceding financial year)

He requested the minister to include some 20 items widely used by Tirupur knitwear garment exporters for manufacturing the exportable value added garments to get the real benefit of the announcement.

As the potential to increase the readymade garment (rmg) exports lay on export of synthetic garments which has market throughout the year globally, the additional inclusion of more specialty fabrics will be helpful to enhance the growth and competitiveness, he said and sought inclusion of the fabrics also and help for growth of rmg and provide more employment to workers.
