The notification of AAP government enhancing the circle rate of agricultural land by three times in the national capital was today challenged in the Delhi High Court in a PIL which said the decision was taken without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor (LG).

The petition has sought quashing of the August 4 notification which has already run into trouble after the LG Najeeb Jung has directed the Arvind Kejriwal government yesterday to maintain status quo till the issue is being examined legally.

The petition filed by one Gopal Gupta said the notifcation issued by Delhi government is null and void as it has been issued without any authority.

The Aam Aadmi Party government has fixed the new rates in the range of Rs 1 crore to Rs 3.5 crore per acre from the earlier Rs 53 lakh per acre.

The petition said that the LG is the competent authority to take the final decision in this behalf and execution of the notification will put burden on residents of Delhi.
