An "area commander" of the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and five of its alleged supporters were arrested in Khunti today while a two-member team was set up to probe reports that the PLFI head Dinesh Gope was funding some schools in the district, the police said here.

Superintendent of Police Anis Gupta said PLFI area commander Shankar Gope and five of the proscribed outfit's supporters were arrested from different places in the district.

A rifle and four bullets were recovered from the alleged possession of Shankar Gope, the SP said

Shankar Gope was wanted in 23 cases including murder, extortion and kidnapping, he said, adding the five alleged supporters were nabbed for allegedly threatening some schools to shut down.

"All schools are functioning normally. And there is no threat to any school now," the SP said.

He said a two-member team comprising sub-divisional police officer Deepak Sharma and deputy superintendent of police Anudip Singh was set up to look into reports that the PLFI's head, Dinesh Gope, was funding school or schools in the district.

Like Kundan Pahan of the CPI (Maoist), Dinesh Gope of the PLFI is also hoodwinking the police for years.
