Prime Minister Narendra Modi today assured Nepal, recovering from a devastating earthquake, that India is fully committed to supporting its reconstruction effort as he commended the people of that country for their resilience in facing this grave tragedy.
He made the comments when former Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba called on him here.
Deuba thanked the Prime Minister for India's quick reaction and assistance in the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year, a PMO statement said.
He also appreciated India's pledge of USD 1 billion announced at the Donors' Conference in Kathmandu in June 2015.
Modi told Deuba that India is fully committed to supporting Nepal in the reconstruction effort and commended the people of that country for their resilience in facing this grave tragedy, the statement said.
During the meeting, Deuba briefed Modi on the developments relating to adoption of a new Constitution in Nepal.
The Prime Minister appreciated the recent progress and expressed the hope that outstanding issues would be resolved at the earliest so that the Constitution that is adopted enjoys the support of all sections of the society and helps build an inclusive, stable and prosperous Nepal.
