Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded open water swimmer Bhakti Sharma for her accomplishment of setting a world record by swimming 1.4 miles in 52 minutes across the waters of the Antarctic Ocean at a temperature of one degree Celsius.
"We are all very very proud of Bhakti Sharma for her accomplishments! My best wishes to her," the Prime Minister said in a statement.
Bhakti has bettered the earlier record of British open water swimmer Lewis Pugh and American swimmer Lynne Cox. She is now the world's youngest and Asia's first girl to achieve this feat.
Bhakti, a recipient of Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award in 2010, has now conquered all the five oceans of the world.
