Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said every household should have round-the-clock power supply by 2022.

"In 2022, when India will be celebrating 75 years of Independence, every house should have 24X7 electricity," Modi said while interacting with school students on the eve of Teachers' Day here.

Students from nine states joined the programme through video conference and asked questions to Modi.

Sarthak Bhardwaj from Uttarakhand had asked how achieving Digital India would be possible when many places in India do not have electricity.

Modi said, "There are 18,000 villages which do not have power. In next 1000 days, we have taken up the effort to give power to these 18,000 villages."

He, however, said Digital India march cannot be stopped and can continue with solar power also.

This is for the second year that the PM interacted with students on the occasion of Teachers' Day, which is celebrated to mark the birthday of India's second President and scholar Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on September 5.
