CPI(M) Politburo member Brinda Karat said both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu do not have the intention to accord Special Category Status (SCS) to AP.

Terming the delay in giving special status to AP as 'contempt of the Parliament', Karat alleged that the NDA government at the Centre and Naidu do not have the intention to keep their promise made in the Parliament in the past.

The senior leader was in the city to attend a meeting on liquor policy of Andhra Pradesh.

She also lashed out at Modi and Naidu alleging that they are acquiring the lands of poor farmers to please the 'corporates'.

"Both the governments are not respecting the laws and working against the interests of farmers and tribals. Land Acquisition Act, Forest Dwellers Rights Act are not being properly implemented," Karat said.

She alleged that Naidu is legalising illegal encroachment of lands by land grabbers by issuing new orders.

"The NDA government has totally failed to run the Parliament and have not taken the opposition into confidence while passing several pending Bills. The BJP is not willing to pass the Women's Reservation bill," she said.
