Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pitched for collective fight against terror and radicalisation by the member countries of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).

He made the remarks while receiving the National Security Chiefs of the member countries who have gathered here for first-ever meeting of the seven-nation grouping.

The National Security Chiefs briefed the Prime Minister about their deliberations at the meeting, the PMO said.

"The Prime Minister called upon the BIMSTEC member states to come together to counter common security threats, such as terrorism; extremism and radicalisation; drugs, arms and human trafficking; and natural disasters," a PMO statement said.

Modi said the BIMSTEC member states should also work together to address non-traditional security threats, such as in the domain of cyber security and in maritime domain.
