All India Bank Employees' Association today sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for withdrawal of an FIR filed by Maharashtra police against a branch manager for the alleged suicide of a farmer.

In a letter to Modi, AIBEA General Secretary C H Venkatachalam requested him to direct the Home Ministry to ensure withdrawal of the FIR lodged against the manager.

"Of late, branch managers, officers and employees in the Bank(s) were subjected to various external pressures and harassments and staff had become the target of attack without any reason", he said.

He enclosed a copy of a report in which the branch manager of a public sector bank in Amaravati in Maharashtra was booked by police for the alleged suicide of a farmer.

The Bank also suspended him from service following the development.

"The matter is not that trivial to be ignored any longer. It warrants necessary action from the Government and the banks to protect the workforce from such intimidations, attacks and humiliations", Venkatachalam said.

"Please advise the Home Ministry to ensure the withdrawal of the FIR against the Manager. Please advise the Finance Ministry to ensure withdrawal of the suspension of the manager", he said.
