PM to launch Digital India Project in two village panchayats

Digital India Project aims to connect all gram panchayats by broadband internet, promote e-governance and transform India into a connected knowledge economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will tomorrow formally launch the Digital India Project via video conferencing in two village panchayats of the district, a senior official said here today.

The Digital India Project, a pet scheme of the Modi government, aims to connect all gram panchayats by broadband internet, promote e-governance and transform India into a connected knowledge economy.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) Indore Circle General Manager M R Rawat said that ten village panchayats, which are around 35 km from here, will be connected with a high-speed internet service under the project that will be launched tomorrow.

Work to connect 335 village panchayats with high-speed internet is almost nearing completion, the BSNL official said.
 
Rawat said that BSNL will kickstart celebrations to mark 'Digital Week' from tomorrow, under which school kids and commoners will be introduced to modern telecommunication techniques.
