The Indo-Sri Lanka Fishermen Negotiation Committee today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to secure the release of 87 Indian fishing boats in the custody of the island nation.
In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Committee President S Devadoss said Sri Lanka was now willing to release the boats but was insisting that their boats which are now in the custody of the Indian government be released.
The other condition of the nation was that Indian fishermen should come to Sri Lanka to get it done. It was not possible for the fishermen who are poor to travel to that country by air, he said.
Hence the government should resume the third level of talks and secure the release of the boats, Devadoss said.
