To connect with voters ahead of the coming Assembly elections, a senior PMK leader has sent out 80,000 invitations to voters in his consitutency Alangudi for his children's ear-piercing ceremony.

PMK state deputy general secretary Suba Arulmani has distributed 80,000 invitations to residents in the constitutency, where he contested and lost in 2011, inviting them for anear-piercing ceremony for his children today.

PMK party workers said Arulmani had hit upon this idea as he would not be able to send out so many invites once the model code of conduct comes into force with announcement of elections.

Rajakumaran, a party functionary said though Arulmani lost the elections in 2011, he was continuously involved in taking steps to strengthen the party in the constituency through such 'novel ideas'.

Mohanasundaram, a local resident, said such a large number of invitations had been sent out only with the election in mind. However the people would decide who their MLA should be.

It is common practice in this part of the state to hold "ear-piercing ceremony" for family gatherings or that of political associates.
