All states and union territories were today asked by the Centre to provide information on District Gazetteers, which acts as a socio-economic and cultural catalogue of a district.
The information has been sought by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in a format carrying heads like state, whether gazetteer exist or not, date gazetteers were last revised and periodicity of revised gazetteers.
The Prime Minister's Office PMO has desired that information related to District Gazetteers may be furnished in the format, the DoPT said.
As the District Gazetteers were maintained or updated by state governments, the desired information may be set by October 16, so that consolidated information could be sent to the PMO, the DoPT said in a communique sent to Chief Secretary of all state governments and union territories.
