Poachers kill elephant, steal its tusk and trunk

An elephant was allegedly killed by poachers and its tusk and trunk stolen by them in the wee hours here today.

According to forest officials, the elephant probably slipped into a river at Samguri in Nagaon district and got stuck under a wooden bridge.

Taking advantage of the situation, poachers fired at the jumbo.

After killing the animal, they took away the tusk and trunk, officials said.
