PoK authorities hand over drowned man's body to Army

Authorities in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) returned the body of a person who drowned in Kishanganga river in Karnah sector of Kupwara district, hours after the Indian Army brought the issue into their notice, a defence spokesman said.

Farooq Illiyas, a resident of Tithwal near the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector, died in a road accident last evening and his body fell into the Kishanganga river and washed away by the current to the PoK, the spokesman said.

He said the Army post at Tithwal, of the Chamkot Battalion, immediately rushed to the aid of the victims and together with police and district administration initiated proceedings to get the body of the deceased back.
 

The Company Commander at Tithwal spoke to his counterparts on the other side of the LoC thereby ensuring that the body was handed over to the bereaved family by night, the spokesman said.

He added that assistance was also provided to the family to conduct the last rites of the deceased.
