Poland has been chosen as the 'Guest-of-Honour' country for the New Delhi World Book Fair to be held in 2014.
"We are happy to join hands with a country like Poland which has had four Nobel laureates in literature. The association will be fascinating and facilitate rich exchange of literature between two countries," A Sethumadhavan, Chairman, National Book Trust (NBT), said here today.
He was speaking at the at the launch of the translation of a Polish book titled Little Chopin.
Also present on the occasion was Ambassador of Poland to India, Piotr Klodkowski.
"Participation in this international book fair will be an opportunity for us to share knowledge and rich literature of the two countries," the Ambassador said.
Commenting on the literary exchange between Poland and India, the Ambassador added literature in languages such as Tamil, Sanskrit and Bangla that includes the works of Rabindranath Tagore, Premchand, Ashok Vajpeyi and the scripts of the Bhagvad Gita and Rig Ved, have been directly translated into Polish language.
"So, the Indo Polish literary exchange is not new, the 'aadan-pradan' has always been there," he said.
The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) has been organised by NBT for the past 41 years and is now a major calendar event in the publishing world. The next edition is likely to be held from February 15- 23, 2014.
The concept of 'Guest of Honour' country at the Fair was introduced last year when France was the guest of honour.
