Police arrests a person involved in murder of Haokip

Police today arrested a person suspected to be involved in the killing of a student leader Lenkholal Haokip on June 23 last.

In a press briefing, senior police officer K Jayanta informed that the suspect identified as 38-year-old Solomon Baite was apprehended at around 3.30 pm from Khongnang Ani Karak area following "a massive manhunt by state police commandos."

The accused hailed from Indo-Myanmar border town of Moreh, the officer said.

Lenkholal Haokip, the president of Haokip Students' Organisation was shot dead at his Langol residence in Imphal West district on the night of June 23.

Earlier, the Kuki Students Organisation GHQs on June 30 last had given two days time to the government to apprehend the individuals responsible for killing Lenkholal, failing which it threatened to launch an indefinite general strike from tomorrow.
