Press Trust of India New Delhi
Police today arrested a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) engineer in connection with the death of a 9 year old boy who had fallen into a rainwater filled ditch on a land under his "supervision" in north Delhi.

"The arrest was made following reply of Delhi Jal Board regarding official responsible for the land where the ditch was situated. The name of the engineer Sher Singh was given to us by the Board in reply to our communique," said a senior police officer.

The engineer was, however, released after bail from the Burari police station where a case was registered in the matter, as the offence was bailable, he said.

The victim Jastin Masih, a class III student who lived with his parents at Himgiri apartment near Burari Authority office, had died after falling into the ditch, while trying to catch a stray kite on July 20.

Delhi Water Minister and chairman of DJB Kapil Mishra had also recommended a magisterial probe into the incident.
